IAOM Certification

International Association of Orofacial Myology Certified Orofacial Myologist COM®

The IAOM is an organization dedicated to the specialty study and training for orofacial myofunctional disorders. It is the only existing nonprofit professional organization that actively trains and certifies its membership and is recognized by the AGD, ADHA, ASHA for its quality and excellence. The IAOM trained nearly all course instructors offering courses across the world today.

Started in 1971, the IAOM is dedicated to the science of orofacial myofunctional disorders. Our COM® (Certified Orofacial Myologist) is a network of highly trained professionals, clinical educators, and international researchers.  COM's® undergo education , written and clinical skills assessment before being awarded these credentials.  Upon achieving the COM® in order to maintain their active credential they are required to meet continuing education requirements.

All members of the IAOM must be fully licensed professionals with comprehensive educational study, background and training in working within the orofacial complex. They include speech-language pathologists, registered dental hygienists, dentists, physicians who actively  collaborate with other medical/dental practitioners for the optimal care of their patients.

With the proliferation of other allied professionals jumping into treatment for this disorder, we recommend informed professionals and the general public seek out COM® for skilled care.
