OROFACIAL MYOLOGY

PRE-CERT. INTRODUCTORY COURSE

 Take part in a 4-day exciting and thorough hands-on, didactic intensive learning course for
 
licensed speech-language pathologists, dental hygienists, dentists, and medical
 
physicians. Participants will be able to absorb a multi-disciplinary approach while
 
learning the science of orofacial myology, comprehensive assessment skills,
 
and implementing effective treatment planning based on applied learning
 
procedures.

• Anatomy and physiology of the head and neck
• Dental occlusion and classifications
• Dental measurements and their effect on treatment planning
  • Facial symmetry and craniofacial development
• Phases of swallow process
• Types of ankyloglossia and its effects
  • Obstructive sleep apnea and the role of Orofacial Myofunctional therapy 
• Atypical muscular patterns and TMD
• Variances of orofacial resting postures
• Proper airway and tongue resting postures
• Comprehensive orofacial assessment methods
  • Learn the "Systems Approach" to Therapy 
  • Developing an individualized treatment plan
• Therapeutic techniques to correct OMDs
• Habit elimination theory and techniques
• How Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders impact speech sound production
 

REQUIREMENTS

Registration for this course is only open to speech-language pathologists, registered dental hygienists, and DDS’ with a current state license or its equivalent. All participants will be required to provide a copy of licensure prior to completion of registration.
